A native of North Carolina, I have lived in Brasil, Massachusetts, New York City and now reside in Los Angeles, California.
For the past 10+ years I have restored my historic home – a 1911 Adirondack style California Bungalow, and love catching up with my close circle of friends on the veranda. Listening to and sharing wonderful stories are a Southern pastime, and I am no exception. I love to experience new cultures, art and history. My friends frequently use my travel compendiums as an informal resource for great under-the-radar spots for food, history, design and museums.
At Smith College in Northampton, MASS, I studied Art History and Comparative Religions. During the summers, I worked as a textile designer for Linda Phillips’s weaving company and studied weaving at Penland School of Crafts (NC). For two years I attended Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City, where I lived in Greenwich Village (on West Houston between Angelika and the Film Forum) and commuted uptown to study Modern Art with Rosalind Krauss, Japanese film and Russian literature. I spent my weekends at Soho galleries, visiting city art museums and cooking.
Directly after moving to Los Angeles, I worked at Sotheby’s in the Fine Arts Department, where I participated in the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Estate Auction, interned at the LACMA in the Public Relations and the Costumes and Textiles Departments. I then spent a year at the Santa Monica Museum of Art as a National Endowment for the Arts Curatorial Scholar, where I participated in organizing exhibitions, education programs and fundraising. Later, I led award-winning educational programs at The Autry National Center.
I have always been passionate about combining creativity with business. I spent 12 years as the owner of A Papier, LLC, a small luxury design company that created the highest-end custom invitations, stationery and branding for individuals and buisnesses, including celebrities Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba’ and Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith; corporations Nissan, Bloomingdale’s and Quantis Airlines, and non-profit organizations University of Southern California, The Los Angeles Zoo and New Village Academy. I still own an antique printing press and create beautiful graphic works of art.
Currently, I am a Consultant specializing in luxury brands, graphic design and project management. Recently, I consulted to a new high concept fragrance company based in Los Angeles and spear-headed their launch with branding, packaging, marketing, staffing and sales. I also recently consulted for a Parisian-based luxury tea company to create a concept and logo, develop color schemes and storyline options as well as design packaging.
I’m always on the lookout for the distinctive creative person, idea, technology, or business model. I often visit art galleries, online design and social gatherings to seek out new upcoming ideas and trends. I enjoy movies and books not only for the distinctive stories but for the creative process by which the story is told. I love the business of working with clients and their needs, because it is a challenge for a creative solution.
